What the policy did

Loi of 28 May 2002 legalising euthanasia under conditions: adult patient, persistent and unbearable suffering, explicit voluntary request, medical procedure by registered physician, review by Federal Control Commission. Belgium became the second country globally (after Netherlands, 2001) to legalise euthanasia. Extended to competent minors in 2014.
