What the policy did

Closed-door MSZP parliamentary-caucus speech by Gyurcsany at Balatonoszod on 26 May 2006 (admitting the government had "lied morning, noon, and night" during the campaign) leaked and broadcast 17 September 2006. Triggered weeks of protests including the 18 September siege of MTV headquarters and the 23 October 2006 riots on the 1956-anniversary. Opposition demanded resignation; Gyurcsany refused.
