What the policy did

Amendment to the 1975 abortion act extending the self-determination (right to terminate without board review) limit from gestational week 12 to week 18, with reformed abortion-board procedures for terminations between week 18 and week 22. Based on the 2023 NOU "Abort i Norge" expert commission report. Passed in the Storting 30 May 2024 with cross-bloc majority (AP, SV, V, R, MDG, and parts of H and Sp voting in favour; KrF and FrP opposed).
