What the policy did

Zuwanderungsgesetz of 30 July 2004, effective 1 January 2005, reformed German immigration law for the first time at federal level in the post-war era. Created a unified Aufenthaltsgesetz replacing earlier Ausländergesetz, introduced integration courses, and opened limited high-skilled labour migration channels.
