What the policy did

Mass arrest of 106 opposition politicians, NGO activists, academics and journalists under the Internal Security Act 1960 from 27 Oct 1987. Newspapers The Star, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Watan had publishing licences revoked. Arrests coincided with Team-A/Team-B UMNO leadership crisis. Official Secrets Act amended Dec 1986 to widen classification powers and introduce mandatory jail.
